When I started on the journey that has been the evolution and growth of NE Solutions, it was as a sole trader with an office in the theatre room of our rented house and loads of enthusiasm.
Being a Business Support/Personal Assistant expert with 20+ years of corporate experience, all I had now was a computer, printer, mobile, and an eagerness to support Small Business Owners and time-poor people.
But how do I go about finding clients or they finding find me?
Being extremely naïve of networking and SEO on a web page – I turned to Gumtree.
It was free, which at this point in time was the biggest selling point; easy to use and seemed to be THE place to go to find stuff – so why not clients?
I created the best marketing ad online I could think of – it wasn’t particularly great – but it was honest and short and I was targeting time-poor business people.
And I waited……..
Then one day whilst researching how to run your own business successfully – my mobile phone rang – it was to be my very first Business Support client.
He was a Sole trader, who had his wife doing the administration side of things – but now she had left the family home, which meant he was way too busy with the actual business and too tired in the evenings to cope with the paperwork.
You couldn’t wipe the smile off of my face – as soon as I had put the phone down – I was on the phone to my FIFO husband excitedly saying “I’m in business!”
Since that day Gumtree has been my ‘go-to’ guy for everything !
From selling items; buying furniture to expand the home office; posting an ad from my puppies asking for a new rental home that would take them and us; finding obscure furniture for the theatre productions I’m involved in – to searching “job wanted” ads to locate and hire all of our team members.
Gumtree has been there for me every step of the way!
And hasn’t let me down yet – apart from that time I nearly got scammed – but that wasn’t Gumtree’s fault and I digress!
NE and Gumtree have now become good mates, and Gumtree is always the first point of call when we are required to sell client’s items from declutters/deceased estates etc..
