Many people have heard of a birth doula, but far fewer have heard of an End-of-Life Doula.
Recently, Jay had the pleasure of meeting Andrea Anthony from Bringing You Home – End of Life Doula Services through the newly established Death Café in Kalamunda. Our conversation highlighted an important profession that many families may not realise exists.
An End-of-Life Doula provides non-medical support to individuals and their loved ones as they navigate the final stages of life. Their role can include emotional support, helping facilitate difficult conversations, legacy and life reflection work, advance planning, practical guidance, and simply being a calm, compassionate presence for both the individual and their family.
While doctors, nurses and palliative care teams focus on clinical care, an End-of-Life Doula focuses on the human side of the journey — ensuring people feel heard, supported and empowered to make choices that align with their wishes and values.
At ne: solutions, we often talk about the importance of planning and being active participants in life’s later chapters. Andrea’s work complements this beautifully by helping people and families navigate conversations that are often difficult to start, but incredibly important to have.
We are delighted to introduce Andrea and the wonderful work she is doing through Bringing You Home. If you’ve never heard of an End-of-Life Doula before, perhaps now is the perfect time to learn more about how this unique support can help individuals and families approach life’s final transition with greater confidence, dignity and peace of mind.
